maria pestana art gallery online intends to provide a commercial launch of the art works of selected international artists. Our intention is to promote young artists and less well known artists who have been chosen for their technical skills, personality or creative imagination. Also among our compromises is to present the artist to international competitions and prizes.
We offer to collectors personal consultancy services to assist them in developing their collections according to their special interests or in exploring new branches of contemporary art to begin collecting. In addition we firmly believe in promoting the excitement, pleasure and fascination of collecting art to a new generation of collectors and thus we offer advice and guidance all aspects of how to start, build and develop an art collection.

David Harker (United Kingdom)
David
Harker (United Kingdom) shows in this Gallery of Portraits his emotional
relation to the subject. As in his previous works there is a “personal
connection with the subject”. Also as in his previous works the
artist shows an honest view. He does not pretend to mask reality or
embellish the subject. Clearly the aim of the artist is to focus into
the detailed features of the subject rather than into the rest of the
body. The viewer is forced to focus attentively into the depicted subject.
The discrete palette enables to reproduce the emotional effects brought
to the canvas by the artist. David Harker wishes to share with us his
private and personal space.
David Harker (United Kingdom) has been granted with
many awards. He has exhibited through Europe and USA.
"This series of portraits are of friends.
They are made of oil on canvas and are represented in a way which
attempts to capture something of the character of the sitter. There
is, in making a portrait, a responsibility to the sitter. With this
in mind I approach the task by concentrating on those aspects of the
portrait which are objective, such as the composition, is the head
turned or facing the viewer, for example, the arrangement of colour
and the underdrawing so that the representation is a close likeness
to the sitter. By concentrating on the formal qualities of the painting
the poetic should follow and different readings of the image can be
found". (2010, David Harker)
